Celebrations, Reunions, And A Baptism

This past weekend, friends and family gathered together to celebrate a 50th and a 25th wedding anniversary.

It was a beautiful weekend with an amazing ending. Brandon called just before Sunday’s meeting here on the west coast. He was baptized Sunday evening. We couldn’t be there in person, but our meeting was beautiful and so comforting.

Celebrations of life long marriages… a wonderful weekend away with friends and family… and our sixth child baptized into this wonderful faith… life is good!

Like The Seasons Change… So Does My Life

Well. I’ve been putting off sitting down at the computer for some time now. Life as I have known it for more than half of my life is changing rather quickly. It’s been what… 22 years since Aaron started kindergarten? Six kids and 20-some years later… Taylor is a senior in high school.

As summer came to an end, I purchased back to school supplies and back to school clothes. The day before school started, I took my baby out for a back to school lunch… all for the last time.

I wonder what life will be like for me after school is out. I won’t be a SAHM any longer… hmmm. I guess I’ll be a house wife? UGH. There must be another word for it by now.

So anyway. Life as a mom is ever changing. Yes. I realize that. Kevin and I are almost empty nesters… and where will my empty nest be located? I have no idea.

I’m sitting here looking at stack of moving boxes… some are packed with my holiday dishes, pie pans, and favorite coffee mugs. I look around and think about all the memories we’ve made in this big old house I have called home for the past 28 years….

Well. So much for getting sentimental right now. I don’t have time to think about all of this. Goodness, NO. I don’t have time to take a deep breath… there definately isn’t time to be sad.

Broken Links Because I Updated WordPress

Lovely… I know.

I had a few minutes here, so I thought I’d do a simple upgrade to the latest wordpress release. Well, my few minutes have passed rather quickly… considering I was only staying up till the news was over.

Anyway.

I don’t have time to fix the broken links tonight. Ugh. Okay, so they aren’t broken if you click on a link in my blog. But the pages indexed in google will be broken links. Oh Joy.

I can’t help it tonight. I’ll try to figure it out soon.

My Morning Coffee

So I go into the kitchen and put the tea kettle on for my morning cup of tea. Then I turn around and start to unload the dishwasher. All of a sudden there is an explosion like a gunshot right behind me. I jump and turn in one motion…. sparks are flying clear across the kitchen. It looks like a fourth of July celebration gone wrong.

I surprised myself when I started screaming and backing into the corner as far as I could. The sparks were dying down, but the flames were shooting higher…

I knew I had to turn that burner off. But I’m in the kitchen barefoot and sparks are still shooting. I took a chance… and didn’t get burned. About the time I come running out of the kitchen, Taylor came running into the dining room. He made sure I was okay. Then he made sure burner was off. When he picked the tea kettle up, the burner came up with it.

The burner and the kettle were welded together.

I need coffee.

Salmon Fishing Trip

A few weeks ago my guys all went fishing for salmon. T-man (far right) caught the biggest fish of all the guys in this group. It was his first time deep sea fishing. So if you hang out long enough, you may just hear him telling a “fish this big….” story.

Even Burgandy caught a salmon!  How fun is that!

Mmm… there isn’t anything better than wild salmon!

Surprise 40th Birthday Celebration

Lisa’s 40th birthday was last weekend.  Aaron sent me a text about 4:00 in the afternoon asking if I could put together a little surprise party for that night. They were in Brewster and he figured they would be home about 7:00. Well… I got right on it. Called a few people, picked up a few decorations, a big batch of cupcakes, and ice cream, and we had a party that night. We had everyone park just around the corner at the high school and Tman shuttled them to the house for the party.

I think she was really surprised. It was a fun little last minute get together. The last minute get togethers are often the best kind…

Family, friends, yummy food, and fun visiting…. it doesn’t get much better! I will be posting a photo slide show on my photo blog Life Is Good.

Spending the Night at Grandma and Grandpa’s House

This past Saturday and Sunday we got to keep our little MisterMan. The little man was in Grandpa’s arms as his mommy and daddy walked out the door. There were hugs and kisses and a super sweet little ”luv you”. When they got into the truck he was waving bye and blowing kisses. He continued to blow kisses and wave as they drove up the drive.

It was adorable.

He played outside with his Uncle Tman, he played inside with Grandma and Grandpa.

It was nearly bedtime when MisterMan stopped what he was doing. He was standing in the middle of the room. His eyes filled with tears, but he didn’t cry. He looked at his grandpa and asked in the saddest little baby voice “where’s momay”  Kevin told him he’d see his mommy tomorrow. He repeated the sad little “where’s momay”. It was so sad, I wanted to cry. I said as bright as I could to the little man.. “You get to stay with Grandma and Grandpa tonight” His reaction was so cute. He said in a somewhat surprised tone “ohhh” and all was well in his world. He went on playing.

Shortly after that he snuggled into Grandpa’s lap with a bottle and a blanket. He slept all through the night. We were up and around and to church on time. It was quite the change of pace for us. Not that we haven’t had a baby in the house before… but it’s been awhile!

Grandma and Grandpa both are looking forward to the next time the little man can stay with us!

Amish Friendship Bread Directions

Last year one of our neighbors gave me a batch of Amish friendship starter. It’s not a yeast starter.  The concept is much like the sourdough starter, in that it is passed around from one homemaker to another homemaker.

The Amish friendship bread is very rich. It’s dense and moist, sweet, and has a cinnamon flavor. Yummy. Of course the cinnamon can be omitted.

Why am I talking about friendship bread now? Because I watched Martha Stewart today.  Oh you know me. I watch Martha every day. I tuned in a couple minutes late, but apparently a little gal gave Martha a batch of Amish friendship bread starter.  I wonder if Martha is really going to continue the starter and pass it around to her friends.

If you are lucky enough to receive a bag of Amish friendship bread starter, but you need the instructions to take care of the starter, to make the bread, or need to print out extra instructions to pass out to your friends, I posted the directions for taking care of the starter on my website last year.  Directions for Amish Friendship Bread

When I’m baking the bread, my home smells so yummy. Now that’s an amazing home fragrance… it’s a good thing.
